As Putin’s invasion of Ukraine continues, so does retaliation from the Anonymous Hackers Collective. The cyber war against the Russian government has taken a personal and rather hilarious turn. It seems Anonymous has found a way to add Putin’s yacht to the list of sanctions.
The hackers accessed the Automatic Identification System that tracks the locations of ships all over the world. They changed the name of Putin’s $97 million luxury yacht from ‘Graceful’ to ‘FCKPTN’. Then, they went ahead and changed the vessel’s destination to “hell’ (with an ETA of April 1st).
According to Bloomberg’s Ryan Gallagher, they “figured out a way to mess with maritime traffic data & made it look like the yacht had crashed into Ukraine’s Snake Island, then changed its destination to “hell”.

On February 27, Anonymous tweeted a video addressed to Putin. They point out how the sanctions hurt the Russian people – not Putin.
“Mr Putin, the ongoing invasion of Ukraine has shown that your regime has no respect for human rights or the self-determination of your neighbors,” the Guy Fawkes masked hacker said.
“In the past several days a full scale invasion has commenced, civilian neighborhoods have been bombed and innocent people have been killed. Refugees are fleeing the violence and the population is being forced into conscription by Ukrainian officials. This is an ugly situation all around but you are the instigator, they added.
“The sanctions will hurt your citizens far more than they will hurt you. Which is why the sanctions are not a proper deterrent.”
