A photograph taken by a couple on vacation in South Carolina is getting quite a bit of attention, both online and in the news. The photo contains a ghostly figure that many locals believe is the Grey Man, a figure of local legend and harbinger of doom.
While visiting the community of Cherry Grove, Johnny Cobb took some photographs from the balcony of his hotel room. He and his partner snapped several pictures of their beautiful view of the beach and nearby pier, but they ended up with an ominous image.
As Cobb told the local news station, he didn’t see a person out there with his own eyes, it was only later when viewing the photos that the couple noticed an eerie form walking up the pier.
While visually he seems a bit shaken when discussing the photo, he still is not ready to announce his findings as evidence of the paranormal. “I‘m not sure what it is,” said Cobb, “I‘m not saying it is a ghost, I‘m not saying it‘s not a ghost. It‘s strange.“
Despite the photographer’s skepticism, the more superstitious South Carolina residents are convinced it’s the Grey Man. According to Mike Neff of Brentwood Ghost Tours, many have seen this particular ghost over the years, and sightings usually coincide with a bad storm season.
Neff explains, “The Grey Man shows up for hurricanes. When there’s going to be a hurricane to hit the coast, many people go down to the beach and they see the Grey Man walking the coasts.”
