An eerie photograph of what’s being called a “River Troll” has resurfaced just in time for swimming season. This curious snapshot was recently shared on Lon Strickler’s website, ‘Phantoms and Monsters,’ but the actual encounter dates back to 2015.
An Unusual Encounter
In a quaint coastal Mississippi town, a family was enjoying the serene river life on a houseboat. One evening, while lounging on the boat’s deck, they noticed something peculiar across the river. An oddly shaped figure, hunched near the water’s edge. It was roughly 25-yards away, far close enough to warrant grabbing a pair of binoculars for a clearer view. What they saw was a creature that defied explanation:
“It was pinkish tan with bulging eyes, funny looking ears, two arms and two legs, and what appeared to be horns coming out of its head. It had a short, round body and was drinking from the shore. From what I saw, I would swear it was like a troll. It was devil-ugly.”
A Closer Look at the “River Troll”
The photograph, now circulating online, captures what appears to be the creature’s head and eyes, which can also be seen reflecting ominously on the water’s surface.
Living on the Edge
The family was no stranger to creepy occurrences. Owning land with swamps and living on a houseboat in Mississippi meant encountering all sorts of unsettling sights and sounds. The father recalls:
“Now, living on a houseboat, you see a lot of creepy stuff in the swamp. Also, there would always be trees or logs laying across the ditches of our 1000-foot driveway in the middle of the swamp, as if something put them there to cross the deep parts. You couldn’t walk up or down without that eerie feeling of being watched.”
Lasting Impact on the Family
The sighting left an indelible mark on the family. The houseboat and the property remain in their possession, but the memory of the “River Troll” has kept them away.
“I still own that property and the houseboats, but none of my grown kids will even go out there anymore,” the father explained.
As this mysterious encounter story resurfaces, it adds a chilling twist to the swimming season. A potential river troll on the loose is sure to pique curiosity and keep you looking over your shoulder when near the water’s edge.
