Imagine not only experiencing a UFO sighting in your own yard, but having brunch with aliens? UFO and alien encounter stories are usually on the peculiar side – they are paranormal occurrences after all. However, very few tales of the extraordinary are as strange, fantastic, or inexplicable as this one out of Eagle River.
It was the late morning hours of April 18, 1961, in rural Wisconsin. Joe Simonton was home enjoying a leisurely breakfast around 11am when he heard a ruckus outside. Upon investigation, he spotted the gleaming metal object that was causing all the commotion, hovering above his property. According to Joe it was a bonafide flying saucer. The extraterrestrial craft eventually touched down in his backyard, opening up to reveal three alien beings who Joe described as “Italian-looking”.
Sketch based on witness statement:
Things took an even stranger turn once the aliens started cooking
The beings never spoke to Joe directly, he was able to discern what they wanted through gestures and possibly telepathy rather than speech. The silent, enigmatic creatures requested water by handing Joe a large container. Upon his return, he observed that one of the aliens was preparing pancakes on a strange, flameless cooking device. After offering the flapjacks to Joe, the creatures saluted him before departing to the south, leaving behind a legacy that endures to this day.
Crunchy alien pancakes & an “unexplained” file are all that remains
Did Joe taste one? Yes. He said it “tasted like cardboard.” It would seem culinary talents are not an area these lifeforms are more advanced in. The other two pancakes were given to a ufologist from Vilas County, their fate remains unknown. The encounter was investigated by the United States Air Force, despite the absurdity of the details. It remains on record, simply listed as “unexplained.”
